چکیده

Introduction An understanding of radiation transport (RT) through The goal of this experiment is to simulate radiation clouds is fundamental to studies of the earth’s radiation budget and climate dynamics. The transmission through horizontally homogeneous clouds has been studied thoroughly using accurate, discreet ordinates radiative transfer models. However, the applicability of these results to general problems of global radiation budget is limited by the plane parallel assumption and the fact that real cloud fields show variability, both vertically and horizontally, on all size scales. To understand how radiation interacts with realistic clouds, we have used a Monte Carlo radiative transfer model to compute the details of the photon-cloud interaction on synthetic cloud fields. Synthetic cloud fields, generated by a cascade model, reproduce the scaling behavior, as well as the cloud variability observed and estimated from cloud satellite data. through clouds using a scaling field to reproduce the variability of the cloud optical thickness at small-scale length. The scaling fields are generated using cascade processes characterized by a stable distribution specified by two parameters: and (see Figure 1). A Monte Carlo model was used to compute the interaction (scattering and absorption) between photons and cloud droplets. The radiance and flux fields were obtained from two realizations of the cloud field, both having the same values and This experiment is meant to investigate two important questions: 1) To what extent are the scaling and statistical properties of the original scaling fields of the cloud optical depth preserved in the resultant radiation fields? and

Non-LTE radiative transfer in clumpy molecular clouds

We present some results of the simulation of radiative transfer in clumpymolecular clouds. For this study we have developed a program that can be used to calculate the observed molecular line profiles with one–, two– and three-dimensional model clouds. The three-dimensional models enable us to study the effect of small-scale density fluctuations on the observed molecular emission lines. The den...

Radiative Transfer in Clumpy and Fractal Media

A Monte Carlo model of radiative transfer in multi-phase dusty media is applied to the situation of stars and clumpy dust in a sphere or a disk. The distribution of escaping and absorbed photons are shown for various filling factors and densities. Analytical methods of approximating the escaping fraction of radiation, based on the Mega-Grains approach [4], are discussed. Comparison with the Mon...

Radiative transfer in the cloudy atmosphere

Radiative transfer in clouds is a challenging task, due to their high spatial and temporal variability which is unrivaled by any other atmospheric species. Clouds are among the main modulators of radiation along its path through the Earth’s atmosphere. The cloud feedback is the largest source of uncertainty in current climate model predictions. Cloud observation from satellites, on a global sca...

Radiative heat transfer: many-body effects

Heat transfer by electromagnetic radiation is one of the common methods of energy transfer between objects. Using the fluctuation-dissipation theorem, we have studied the effect of particle arrangement in the transmission of radiative heat in many-body systems. In order to show the effect of the structure morphology on the collective properties, the radiative heat transfer is studied and the re...

In addition, a number of multifractal an...
